Discover Pizzaria Satélite

If you ever find yourself wandering through the cobbled streets of Ouro Preto and craving something comforting yet unforgettable, Pizzaria Satélite on Rua Conde de Bobadela, 97 - Ouro Preto, MG, 35400-000, Brazil, is the kind of place that instantly feels right. I’ve stopped here more than once after long afternoons exploring the historic center, and every visit has left me with the same impression: this is a pizzeria that understands both tradition and taste.

The location alone adds to the experience. Nestled among colonial buildings and baroque churches, the restaurant blends seamlessly into the charm of Ouro Preto. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Wooden tables, warm lighting, and the buzz of conversation create that familiar diner vibe where families, students, and tourists all feel equally at home. It’s casual, but it’s not careless. There’s intention behind everything-from the layout to the service.

The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. You’ll find classic Brazilian pizza flavors alongside more traditional Italian combinations. During one visit, I ordered a Margherita to test the basics. According to the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), authentic pizza should balance a thin, airy crust with high-quality tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella. While this isn’t Naples, the crust here had that satisfying crisp edge and soft center, clearly baked at high heat. The tomato base tasted fresh rather than overly sweet, and the cheese melted evenly without drowning the slice. That balance is harder to achieve than most people think.

On another occasion, I tried a local favorite topped with calabresa sausage and onions. The sausage had a smoky richness that paired beautifully with the slightly charred crust. A friend of mine, who works in food service and pays close attention to ingredient sourcing, pointed out how evenly the toppings were distributed-no overloaded center, no bare edges. That attention to detail reflects a kitchen team that understands process. Good pizza isn’t accidental; it’s about dough fermentation time, oven temperature control, and timing. When I asked one of the staff about their preparation, they mentioned allowing the dough to rest for several hours before baking, which helps develop flavor and texture naturally.

Beyond pizza, the diner-style offerings include appetizers, salads, and drinks that round out the experience. The garlic bread is particularly popular in reviews, and after trying it, I understand why. Crisp on the outside and buttery inside, it works perfectly as a starter while you wait for your main dish. Service is efficient without feeling rushed. Even on busy evenings, orders arrive at a steady pace.

Customer reviews across various platforms consistently highlight two things: generous portions and fair pricing. In a tourist-heavy city like Ouro Preto, that balance matters. You want quality without feeling like you’re paying solely for the location. Based on my visits and conversations with other diners, the restaurant maintains a strong reputation for value. The staff are attentive and quick to correct any minor issues, which builds trust over time.

From a broader perspective, Brazil has seen steady growth in the food service sector over the past decade, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel). With increasing competition, only establishments that focus on consistency and customer satisfaction thrive. This spot clearly understands that. It’s not trying to reinvent pizza; instead, it focuses on executing familiar favorites exceptionally well.

Of course, like any busy restaurant, peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. Parking in the historic center can also be limited, which is more a city-wide issue than a restaurant flaw. Still, once you’re seated and that first slice arrives, those small inconveniences fade quickly.

Whether you’re scanning menus for a laid-back dinner, meeting friends after a day of sightseeing, or simply reading through reviews to find a reliable place to eat in Ouro Preto, this pizzeria delivers comfort, flavor, and consistency in equal measure.

  • Because of the pandemic they were only doing takeout, so I can’t comment on the ambience. Service was very nice m, friendly and quick. We got a Caldo de Mandioca and a Caldo de Feijão. Both were Delicious, although the Caldo de Feijão was my personal favourite.

  • Nice place to have few beers and some tapas. Great service. Wifi is not bad and you can manage your order with zero portuguese ;) Beer is cheap compare to other places in city center.

  • Uauu. Its so great. The pizza wasn' t expensive. It was prepared nyc style. The cheese was rich and cheezy unlike others i have had in brazil. The place always has a good crowd. Could use more servers. The beer is nice and cold. We 'll return. Perfect

  • Great place. We loved the atmosphere. Service is quick and they have a nice selection of beers. The good thing is all kinds of people love here. We'd recommend the filled potatoes as a nice and hearty meal.

  • Nice place to hang out late in the evening. The drinks are cheap, and it's very close to Ouro Pareto's city center with lots of locals hanging around. The décor isn't the greatest, and the waiters can be a little slow, but the food is amazing. Get the French fries and filet mignon if you visit. It's amazing!
